The SIRGE Coalition, a group in charge of guaranteeing respect for the rights of Indigenous Peoples during the transition to a green economy, is made up of Indigenous leaders and allied organizations. In this radio program, we meet the member organizations.

The experience of being Indigenous and transgender brings about a variety of unique intersectional challenges. Growing up in Tana (Deanu), Sápmi land, Levi Sørum (Sámi) lived most of his life rooted in Sámi culture and language. He says he feels fortunate to have attended Sámi kindergarten and one year of Sámi elementary school, in light of Norway’s history of attempting to erase Sámi culture. Besides being Sámi, Sørum is a transgender man – although he considers the term transgender more of a physical description than an identity.

Indigenous Women all around the world are subjected to marginalization and inequality.
As we commemorate International Women's Day, we celebrate the work of Lukretia Booysen (Griekwa, Nama), an Indigenous change maker who is the curator of The Koena Art Institute. Booysen tells us about the Institute's collaboration with the Iziko Art Museum.

Eden FM is the Southern Cape community radio station. The station was started in 2003 as an Initiative by Community leaders and business people in George, Oudtshoorn and Mosselbay. It soon grew to become the largest community radio station in the Western Cape Province.

In 2019 Cultural Survival started helping the San people in a remote part of Namibia to start their own radio station. The idea was to build a web radio station first and then apply for a license from the broadcasting authority in Namibia.
In this podcast we hear from Disco Koki (!Xun), one of the trainees, who came to South Africa to receive training at XK FM, the South African government-funded radio station, that was set up to give the San people a voice.

Of the estimated 7,000 known languages globally, 32 percent of them, which means as many as 2,300 languages are spoken by Indigenous Peoples living in Asia. But lately, because of many reasons, Indigenous languages are disappearing at an alarming rate globally.

De acuerdo con la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), en la actualidad en el mundo se hablan cerca de 7 mil idiomas, y pese a que los Pueblos Indígenas constituyen menos del 6% de la población mundial ellos hablan mas de 4000 idiomas.

En el mundo se habla diversos idiomas Indígenas, Según datos de las Naciones Unidas se hablan alrededor de 4000 idiomas. Pero lamentablemente también existe la realidad de que cada son más los idiomas Indígenas en peligro de desaparecer.
